Discover Whistler, Canada, a winter sports paradise tucked in the mountains just two hours north of Vancouver. While Whistler is a buzzy winter and summer destination, the off-season offers just as much fun. Take advantage of the spring shoulder season, and visit from April to mid-June. Here’s how you can spend a spring break at Whistler to enjoy lower rates and fewer tourists.

Ski Whistler Mountain

Shredding the slopes of Whistler is a must-do for any adventurous spirit. Plus, there’s plenty of powder from November to May. Check out the free orientation tours to get your bearings before taking on the mountain.

Here are some tips to save money while skiing:

  • Purchase lift tickets at least seven days in advance for the best price.
  • Consider picking up an EDGE card if you’re a resident of Canada and Washington state to enjoy discounted days of skiing. Plus, you can use your EDGE card to ski at other destinations like Breckenridge, Colorado, and Park City, Utah.
  • Planning a family ski vacation on a budget? Children 12 years old and under can rent skis and snowboards for free with a paying adult.
  • Keep transportation costs low by staying steps from the slopes at Hilton Grand Vacations Club Whistler.

Hike, Bike and More

Hit Whistler’s trails for another terrific way to see the mountain’s scenic sights if skiing isn’t your speed. After all, Whistler is full of spectacular views and other outdoorsy things to do.

Hike to a derailed train car from the 1950s just off the Sea to Sky Highway. Enjoy the crystal blue water of Cheakamus Lake from High Note Trail and the top of Whistler Peak. Or see Harmony Lake from Musical Bumps, named because hikers pass from Piccolo Summit, Flute Summit and Oboe Summit to Singing Pass.

For majestic waterfalls, visit Rainbow Falls in the spring. Those looking for a challenge can head to Blackcomb Ascent Trail, one of the most strenuous hikes in Whistler, and reward yourself with a gondola ride back down the mountain.

For more waterside excursions, rent a bike or stroll along the Valley Trail, which meanders past five freshwater lakes. Several lakes, including Alta Lake, offer rental shops for kayaks and canoes. Or hop on Lost Lake Trail near Whistler Village and follow the path around Lost Lake Park. Bring your swimsuit and a picnic, or try disc golf and test your Frisbee skills if the weather is warm.

Festival Fun

Join other winter sports enthusiasts at the World Ski & Snowboard Festival in April. Spectate snow sports, including the steepest ski race in the world, and enjoy the after-party for a legendary weekend.

Celebrate all things outdoors at the Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival (GO Fest). GO Fest takes place in May and involves four days packed with live music, art and sporting events. Bring the whole family to Whistler’s Children’s Festival for plenty of kid-friendly events like concerts, live shows, workshops and a self-guided tour of Whistler’s cultural spaces and public art.

Enjoy The Best Local Eats
