Stop daydreaming about the default beach wallpaper on your computer, and visit Los Cabos, Mexico, to experience those dreamy white-sand beaches and warm blue waters for yourself. Adventures await you throughout Cabo, from the beaches to authentic food, local art exhibits and breathtaking hikes. While there are plenty of tourist traps and overpriced experiences, here are four things to do to make the most of your Cabo getaway without breaking the bank.

1. Soak In The Sea Of Cortez

Let’s be honest — travelers flock to Los Cabos for the picturesque beaches. While some beaches are more touristy, each offers unique views and things to do (and don’t cost a penny to enjoy). So try out beach hopping for your dose of vitamin “sea” and discover the best beaches along Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

Cabo San Lucas

Snorkel in turquoise water at Chileno Beach before kicking back and suntanning. Venture to Medano Beach for white-sand beaches and easy access to shopping and dining. Hop on a water taxi to see the calm seas of Lover’s Beach and the iconic Arch rock formations. For a quieter beach setting, head to Santa Maria Beach and enjoy a sunny escape from the hustle and bustle of other beaches.

San Jose del Cabo

While not all of Cabo’s beaches are suitable for swimming, Palmilla Beach’s relaxed waters are perfect for splashing around. Surfers should head to Costa Azul for awesome waves or to watch others hang ten. Anglers claim the best fishing is at La Playita, but everyone can enjoy watching the pelicans along the cerulean water.

Insider tip: Save money by skipping private boat tours. Instead, head to the main marina in downtown Cabo and ride a public water taxi to the top beaches for about $10 per person.

2. Enjoy Authentic Cuisine

You don’t have to spend lots of money for a satisfying meal, as long as you know where to go. Tacos Guss and Gardenias are low-key taquerias with tasty fare. If you want to stumble onto other local gems, explore the Mexican restaurants along Avenida Cardenas, the inland area of Cabo.

For fresh seafood right by the main marina, Mariscos Las Tres Islas serves mouth-watering ceviche, shrimp and more. Afterward, sip a mezcal cocktail from Vas Que Vuelas.

Try grocery shopping at Mercado Municipal, a farmers’ market catered to locals. Shop for fresh tortillas, meat, fish, cheese and produce and practice making fresh salsa and guacamole.

3. Hike Baja California

After a day of relaxing on the beach, get your blood pumping with a hike along Cabo’s beautiful coastline. The Sierra de la Laguna, a mountain range along the Baja California Peninsula, is a UNESCO-protected reserve. The biosphere is home to rare species of hummingbirds and other tropical mammals and plants. Hike along spectacular granite cliffs and soak in hot springs tucked into the mountains.

Or start your day with a moderate hike up Mt. Solmar for incredible views of the Land’s End Arch.

For a more leisurely walk the whole crew will enjoy, visit Cabo Pulmo Marine Preserve and San Jose’s Estuary and Bird Sanctuary for quiet parks to spot local flora and fauna.

4. Catch Some Culture

If you need a break from the sun and surf, Cabo has plenty of museums to explore. Head to the Museum of Natural History in Cabo San Lucas for a quick trip through the history of Baja California.

Art appreciators will find lots to enjoy, from La Sacristia Art & Historythe San Jose del Cabo Art District and Galeria Corsica Cabo. If you’re in Cabo between November and June, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the weekly Art Walk in the main square of San Jose and stroll through art galleries.

While you could spend an entire vacation at the 11.3 acres of beachfront and several infinity pools of La Pacifica Los Cabos, a Hilton Club, plenty of unforgettable adventures await you throughout Cabo. Relax in Los Cabos like a local to see all this destination has to offer.
